Knotless Polypropylene Cargo & Containment Netting — 45mm Mesh

Our most widely used cargo netting specification — heavy duty 45mm knotless polypropylene, manufactured in Fleetwood and used across road freight, warehouse racking, container logistics, and industrial containment. UV stabilised, rot-proof. Available in a full range of standard and bespoke sizes. Buy direct from the manufacturer.

Full Product Description

The 45mm mesh is our most popular specification for heavy cargo containment — the industry standard choice for HGV and flatbed trailer load management, pallet racking protection in distribution warehouses, and general freight containment across transport and logistics operations. Manufactured from high tenacity polypropylene in our Fleetwood factory and engineered to withstand the repeated loading, unloading, and weathering demands of commercial freight use.

The knotless construction eliminates stress concentration points associated with knotted nets, maintaining consistent mesh geometry and reliable load distribution across the net even under sustained or impact loading. Each net is finished with a reinforced perimeter edge for additional strength at the highest-stress point, and is UV stabilised as standard for long-term performance in outdoor, on-vehicle, and exposed warehouse environments.

Applications

HGV and flatbed trailer containment — used alongside primary lashing equipment on flatbed, step-frame, and open trailer operations to retain loose items within the load boundary during transit; suitable for the majority of commercial road freight applications

Tipper truck and body covers — covering open tipper bodies carrying aggregate, demolition waste, hardcore, and construction materials to prevent material escape during road transport

Warehouse pallet racking protection — front-face and rear-face racking nets for high-bay and narrow-aisle warehouses and distribution centres; the 45mm mesh allows stock to be identified visually without removing the net

Shipping container load management — containment panels inside standard and high-cube shipping containers to prevent palletised load shift during sea passage and multimodal transport legs

Skip and waste container netting — covering skip bodies and RoRo containers during transport of construction waste, mixed demolition materials, and light bulky items

Curtainsider/Tautliner internal containment — secondary containment for palletised and unitised loads inside curtainsider artic and rigid trailers

Rail freight — containment netting for open rail wagons and intermodal flats carrying bulk and unitised loads

Agricultural, quarry, and bulk handling — covering trailer loads of loose bulk materials across agricultural, quarry, and bulk material handling operations

Buying direct from the manufacture

Boris Nets has manufactured polypropylene cargo netting in Fleetwood since 1958. Purchasing from us means buying direct from the manufacturer — with direct pricing, direct technical advice on specification, and access to genuinely bespoke fabrication in our own facility. Our 45mm cargo netting is supplied to transport operators, logistics and 3PL providers, distribution centres, local authorities, skip hire operators, and construction companies across the UK.

Compliance

DVSA issues over 2,000 prohibitions annually to vehicles found carrying insecure loads. Under Section 40A of the Road Traffic Act 1988, drivers carry a legal duty to ensure all loads are properly secured. Cargo netting used as a containment layer — alongside appropriate primary lashing rated to BS EN 12195 — assists in meeting this obligation across road freight operations. For warehouse racking applications, containment netting supports compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and HSE guidance HSG76 on warehousing and storage safety.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 45mm the most common mesh size for heavy cargo netting?

45mm balances containment performance with net weight and cost. The mesh opening retains the majority of standard cargo items while the twine diameter and knotless construction provide high tensile strength. It is also lightweight relative to its strength, which matters for operators deploying nets across multiple vehicles, racking bays, or container operations daily.

What size net do I need for my flatbed trailer?

Standard UK artic flatbed trailers are typically 13.6m long at 2.55m wide; rigids vary from 7.6m to 9.6m. We recommend sizing the net to cover the full load width with a 150–200mm overlap on each side. Our standard range covers the most common trailer configurations; custom widths and lengths are made to order. Contact us with your trailer dimensions and we will confirm the right size.

Is 45mm suitable for warehouse racking protection?

Yes — 45mm knotless polypropylene is used in warehouses and distribution centres for both front-face pick protection and rear-face anti-collapse netting on high-bay racking. It provides good visual transparency through the mesh so stock can be seen and identified without removing or lifting the net.

Can the edge be finished with a bungee cord?

Yes* — a bungee cord threaded through the reinforced perimeter edge is available as an option, allowing the net to be stretched over uneven or irregular loads and hook-secured to vehicle lashing points without separate tie-off equipment. *At additional cost.
